MRV Communications, Inc., a leading supplier of network infrastructure equipment and services for networks that scale in size, speed, distance and complexity, is searching for a Systems Engineer in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

Responsibilities include:
  • Supporting the sales organization from pre-sales systems engineering and consulting activities, through installation and implementation and post-sales support;
  • Providing technical sales support in sales presentations, product demonstrations, evaluations, and testing of MRV Optical Transport and Metro Ethernet Switching products and providing timely answers to customers’ and prospects’ inquiries;
  • Travel 50% of the time or more required as necessary.


  • Requirements:
    • A BS in Electrical Engineering or related field;
    • 5 years of experience in field sales/systems engineering in Optical Networks and transport solutions;
    • Practical experience with CWDM/DWDM systems such as Nortel & Cisco;
    • In-depth knowledge of routing protocols, Layer 2 technologies, and a proven record designing large-scale enterprise and carrier networks;
    • Experience with networking technologies and protocols;
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment;
    • Strong communications skills;
    • Strong technical presentation skills using Powerpoint and Visio;
    • Ability to troubleshoot;
    • Must be detail-oriented;
    • Experience with lab and test automation highly desirable.

Software Engineer (GUI Developer)

MRV Communications, Inc. (“MRV”) is a leading provider of network equipment and services, and optical components. Our Boston Products Division develops solutions for Out-of-Band Networking that are comprised of console servers, power management products and sensor management and control devices, MRV's Boston Product Division is also responsible for the design and development of the GUI for the Media Cross Conect and Metro Ethernet products. We are searching for a Software Engineer to join our GUI design team at our Littleton, MA facility.

Job Summary and Major Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for designing and implementing software solutions for the MRV Boston Division Linux based, next generation Communication Server, Sensor Management and Power Control Out of Band Networking products;
  • Research and create designs or design concepts to be used to support future emerging technologies in the development of current and future MRV next generation communications products;
  • Develop software and software design specifications, apply expertise as a generalist and specialist as well as creatively suggest, recommend and or provide solutions to complex design problems.


  • Qualifications/Experience
  • B.S. in Computer Science Engineering (or equivalent);
  • 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent skill set and knowledge in C programming, Java and Linux development environment. Experience with JAVA programming and GUI design for managing network devices a definite plus;
  • Individual must have extensive knowledge and experience in a number of the following areas: Proficiency in C programming; Experience in software development under the Linux Operating System; Java Application programming; GUI programming using Swing Components.

  • SVN source control, Eclipse Development Environment;
  • Experience with Java Swing components;
  • Knowledge in Serial Communications and associated protocols:
  • Strong knowledge in IP Protocols, Routing technologies and associated routing protocols;
  • Experience with database design for high performance scalable platforms.

    Responsibilities: This position is responsible for post-sales support of our metro Ethernet, Optical transport, and Out of Band Networking related company products and will provide direct assistance to customers, business partners and MRV field sales resources. Supported products include: Media converters, DWDM optical transport systems, and Ethernet switches.

    Requirements:
    • 15-10 yrs related experience with direct service tools including: SNMP management and protocol analyzer equipment, as well as direct knowledge of Ethernet and related layer 2 and 3 protocols ;
    • BS, Physics, EE, CS or equivalent;
    • Experience in providing hands on Customer Support in optical/data communications networking technologies;
    • Technical background with proven skills in optical budget evaluation and technical familiarity with current fiber specifications and equipment;
    • Superior communication and writing skills;
    • Ability to exercise good support and business judgment in all customer situations; and
    • Must be able and willing to travel, almost exclusively in the Americas.
