MRV INTRODUCES NEW TWO-DEGREE ROADM MODULE FOR LAMBDADRIVER PLATFORM THAT ENABLES HIGHEST FLEXIBILITY IN BUILDING DWDM NETWORKS
October 8th, 2007

INNOVATIVE LAMBDADRIVER MODULE ALLOWS SERVICE PROVIDERS TO
REMOTELY ADD OR TEAR DOWN WAVELENGTHS ON DWDM NETWORKS IN SECONDS

CHATSWORTH, CA – October 8, 2007 – MRV COMMUNICATIONS, INC. (Nasdaq: MRVC), a leading provider of products and services for WDM and optical transport, metro Ethernet, fiber optic components, 10GE, out-of-band networking and other optical networking products, today announced the addition of a new two-degree reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer (ROADM) module to the LambdaDriver® family of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems.

The EM1600-ROADM40 will be first shown at MRV's booth #918 at COMPTEL PLUS tradeshow in Dallas Oct. 7-10.

The EM1600-ROADM40 supports a total of 40 C-band DWDM wavelengths with 100Ghz spacing, with the ability to drop wavelengths at each node. Each module features 40 “colored” add ports, configurable through the existing LambdaDriver management system, which makes it possible to choose which wavelengths are added from local ports or, alternatively, passed through from express ports. All 40 wavelengths are monitored for power level, and every wavelength can be attenuated allowing automatic wavelength equalization at every node in the network.

The new module features ultra-low loss DWDM drop functionality, based on arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) devices. Each of the 40 supported channels is fully independent of the others and can carry data at the same rate as a dedicated physical fiber.

“The functionality of our new ROADM module allows customers to use the LambdaDriver to build fully tunable DWDM networks that are remotely manageable and that utilize full C-band transponders,” said Noam Lotan, CEO of MRV Communications. “This new ROADM solution adds to the LambdaDriver family an effective way to boost network efficiency and lower the costs of provisioning new services.”

The module enables four separate and distinct functions on each channel: add, for inserting data on to the ROADM network from local access equipment; drop, which enables the channel to carry data received from remote access equipment to local access equipment; pass, which enables the channel to carry data received from remote access equipment to another LambdaDriver system; and darken, which blocks the channel from carrying data from local or remote access equipment to another LambdaDriver.

Each EM1600-ROADM40 module occupies two slots in a LambdaDriver chassis and features power levels of signals on each of the 40 channels that can be monitored and attenuated by any value between zero and 25 Decibels. In addition, the power level of signals in any group of channels can be equalized to maximize the operating efficiency of optical amplifiers in the network. All add/drop ports use MPO connectors (10 channels per connector), and all trunk ports use LC connectors.

About MRV's LambdaDriver Platforms
MRV's LambdaDriver WDM systems provide flexible CWDM and DWDM solutions, enabling enterprises to build campus-wide backbone networks and service providers to create new revenue opportunities due to more efficient use of their fiber infrastructure. Three different active chassis (LD400, LD800 and LD1600) and two passive chassis (LPD100 and LDP300) with interchangeable modules provide a solution for any network size and service density. Transparent transport allows support for all high-speed LAN, WAN or SAN services. The sub-rate TDM technology allows even more efficient use of the available fiber by aggregating low rate protocols over one wavelength. The LambdaDriver platforms support both CWDM and DWDM technologies, thus enabling a cost efficient initial investment in infrastructure with CWDM and a smooth upgrade path towards full capacity DWDM networks. LambdaDriver platforms are NEBS certified for use in U.S. carrier central office applications. For more information, please visit http://www.mrv.com/wdm/prod_ld.php.
