Fiber grooming (media conversion and optimization) incorporates a wide variety of data transmission functions traditionally implemented through multiple independent solutions. The MRV XY multifunction media converters combine media conversion, distance extension, and fiber optimization into versatile multifunction modules. The EM316GSW-XY, is an extremely versatile transponder/converter for the Fiber Driver® Optical Multi-Service Platform.

- Dual 10/100/1000Base-T, Ethernet copper-to-fiber (100Base-FX or 1000Base-X) converter
- Self-healing 10/100/1000Base-T, Ethernet copper-to-fiber (100Base-FX or 1000Base-X) converter
- Dual repeater - fiber-to-fiber (100Base-FX or 1000Base-X) and copper-to-copper (10/100/1000Base-T)
