MS104 - Unmanaged 4-Port Ethernet Switches

The MS104 products are 4-port switches, which are targeted for SOHO, FTTH, and other applications where a few 10/100BaseTX devices need to be concentrated and connected to the network by fiber connections. The family members differ from each other by the type of fiber optic ports connection they accommodate, with a choice of multimode fiber, singlemode fiber, single fiber operation, different wavelengths and power levels as well as different connector types (DSC, SC and MTRJ).

The copper ports support 10/100 auto-negotiation, but can be manually forced to specific mode of operation. They also support both MDI and MDI-X connections, so direct or crossed patch cords may be used.

Applications

Enterprise Optical Infrastructure: The MS104 provides both copper and fiber ports, handling the increasing use of mixed copper and fiber Enterprise cabling.
  • FTTH or SOHO applications: Different users can use each copper port with VLANs or VBDs per port.
  • Voice/Data Convergence: CoS features, using the 802.1p standard, provide service differentiation for mixed Voice/Data environments.
  • Single Fiber To The X: Improve the utilization of existing fibers with single fiber links (most of the MC and MS family converters and switches have an option for single fiber operation).
  • Mission Critical Topologies: The MS104 provides a redundant fiber port, which is idle during the regular operation, but when the main port fails (due to fiber cut or component failure), the redundant port starts operating within milliseconds.
  • Linear (Pipeline) Networks: Using the two fiber ports, the MS104 can be positioned along a pipeline or rail system to drop copper connectivity at each station, while passing the backbone along the main fiber trunk.
