Variable Optical Attenuators
Dynamic attenuation is often required in remote network locations where physical access is inconvenient. The EM316VOA-8 Variable Optical Attenuator (VOA) module attenuates up to eight optical signals. Each VOA port may be adjusted independently from anywhere on the network through the EM316LNXNM-OT Fiber Driver™ network manager installed in the chassis without affecting signals on the other ports. The attenuation ranges from 0 dB to 15 dB in steps of 0.1 dB.
The VOA module supports several common applications including:
1. Power reduction to avoid receiver saturation
2. DWDM equalization prior to aggregation and amplification
