WDM88/GMX - 8-Channel WDM with Multimode Extender Technology was deleted by diana on Fri Dec 3, 2004 17:30:50 PST Reason: Obsolete Previous Overview: The Fiber Driver™ WDM88/GMX, combining MRV Communications' advanced Coarse Wave Division Multiplexer (CWDM) technology and award-winning Gigabit Multimode Extender (GMX) technology, carries eight separate data channels with an aggregate bandwidth of 8 Gbps (16 Gbps at Full Duplex) to a guaranteed distance of 1 km over a Multimode (MM) fiber trunk.
The physical properties of Multimode fiber typically limit single channel Gigabit-speed data transmissions to a distance of 550 meters or less, far shorter than when Multimode fiber is used for transmitting legacy protocols such as FDDI. This fact has left IT managers needing to increase the capacity of their fiber network with little choice but to abandon their Multimode fiber and install new Singlemode (SM) fiber. However, GMX technology, available exclusively in the Fiber Driver product line, gives network administrators another option.
The achievement of the WDM88/GMX brings new life to existing Multimode fiber plant, making it possible to greatly increase network capacity while avoiding the cost, complications and lead times associated with the installation of new fiber. With support for Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel and FICON, the WDM88/GMX is ideal for high-speed backbone, Campus, Enterprise and Storage Area Network (SAN) applications.
