Utility Companies The optical access market, including the utility telecom market, is expected to be amongst the fastest growing and most lucrative markets in the years to come. Municipal power, water and gas boards are stepping into carrier and broadband services in metro and access areas in addition to their traditional services. In order to provide Fiber-to-the-X (FTTx), Carrier-to-Carrier Lambda services, or ISP Optical Ethernet Access Services (or ISP to ISP) as well as Storage (SAN) and SONET services, the municipality has to build a flexible network and make the most advantageous use of its fiber. To obtain this objective, MRV offers a wide variety of fiber-optimization and Wave-Division Multiplexing products, as well as a complete array of Ethernet access technology. MRV technology can package up to 16 Gigabit Ethernet channels onto a single pair of fiber, with Quality of Service (QoS), using the OptiSwitch Ethernet switching product coupled with Colored Optical Ethernet modules. This solution enables PoP-to-PoP Optical Gigabit services as well as wavelength services with only the addition of passive optical add/drop multiplexers. To achieve SAN and SONET integration, we offer the FiberDriver™ fixed and modular WDM solutions providing transparent integration of network services. To complete the network and make the most out of the existing resources, the FiberDriver line also includes a wide variety of signal repeaters, distance extenders, media converters and other fiber-optimization tools. In some cases, fiber is simply unavailable. MRV solves this problem as well, using Free-Space Optics (FSO) technology through the TereScope™ line of optical wireless products. Instead of waiting for fiber-installation, simply connect using this secure, easy-to-deploy, wireless technology from building to building at up to OC48 speeds. MRV has also partnered to provide Power-Line Communications (PLC) networks, providing Internet access over the electrical power lines.
