WDM Transponders
A transponder is a wavelength converter. Most high-speed networking equipment uses multimode or single mode fiber optic interfaces, where the data is carried at 850nm, 1310nm or 1550nm. Since WDM systems need to multiplex different wavelengths together, these signals must all be converted to a particular wavelength that is suitable for either a CWDM or DWDM system.
MRV provides a wide variety of transponders:
- Transponder blades for Fiber Driver-LD systems convert copper, multimode or single-mode fiber, or any SFP access port to a specific CWDM or DWDM wavelength.
- Pluggable (SFP, GBIC) based transponder systems, including simple SFP to SFP transponders (where the wavelength is set by whichever SFP interface installed, and SFP-based systems with redundant uplinks, cross-connects and more, both modular for the Fiber Driver system, and stand-alone 1-RU multi-port transponders.
